Los flujos en ríos, canales y zonas costeras suelen ir acompañados de transporte de sedimentos. En este caso, el transporte de depósitos arrastrados por la corriente juega un papel importante, ya que se mueven materias sólidas en la base de las aguas.
HM 163.72 permite ensayos sobre el transporte de depósitos arrastrados por la corriente y está compuesto por una trampa de sedimentos y un cubo para el suministro de sedimentos. La trampa de sedimentos evita que los sedimentos vayan a parar a la bomba o al caudalímetro del canal de ensayo HM 163.
El flujo cerca del fondo, que contiene los sedimentos, se conduce hasta la trampa, donde los sedimentos descienden hasta el suelo y se acumulan allí. El agua libre de sedimentos fluye al elemento de salida. Los sedimentos se eliminan manualmente de la trampa y se vuelven a introducir a la alimentación.
HM 163.72 no es apto para ensayos sobre el transporte de sedimentos en suspensión.
La trampa de sedimentos se monta directamente con el canal de ensayo, entre la sección de ensayo y el elemento de salida. El montaje posterior no es posible.
